The Vancouver Island Motocross Association (VIMX) has been following the recovery of Ross Sherman and Brandon Moore very closely and are at odds as to what we can do to help as Im sure you all are.
Ross Sherman, a local pro rider from Victoria, suffered a devastating crash at the National Race in Edmonton on June 13th resulting in severe head trauma. He was in a coma for 3 days and is now in the very earliest stages of recovery. He will need extensive rehabilitation to overcome this brain injury. His family has been at his side in Edmonton every second of the day. They are hoping to get Ross transferred to their hometown in Victoria and into a rehab centre there so they can be close to him while he takes all the steps necessary to recover.
Brandon Moore of Courtenay and very new to the MX scene, was severely injured on June 13th in Port Alberni. He was flown directly to Victoria General, suffering a severe head trauma, broken collar bone, some ribs and a couple vertebrae in his back that required surgery. He was very lucky (if you can call it that) despite breaking some vertebrae, his spinal cord was not damaged so he will NOT be paralyzed. His family has also been at his side helping him any way they can, thankfully Brandon too is expected to make a full recovery but will require much needed rehabilitation.
As we said above the recovery for both riders is going to be extensive and they are going to require much TLC, support and extensive rehabilitation. To aid in the families in their time of need VIMX has set up a bank account so people can donate funds to the families to help out with their expenses.
The local tracks on the Island have donated funds to start the ball rolling. If you would like to donate to the Injured Rider Fund, you can go to any Community Coastal Credit Union (CCCU) and ask to contribute to the Vancouver Island Motocross Association Account #100020635536, sub-named Riders Trust. If you would like to donate but there is not a CCCU in your area, you can mail your donation to the Vancouver Island Motocross Association, PO Box 1030, Cumberland, BC V0R 1S0 and we will make sure it gets deposited and mail you a tax receipt.
Please dont feel pressured into donating as this was not our intention of setting up this fund. Our intention was simply to help the families in their time of need. We all know that money cant fix these boys but it can help with a few expenses along the way.
On behalf of VIMX, our thoughts and prayers are with Ross, Brandon and their families. We wish you both a full, healthy and speedy recovery.
